Buffalo Named Host for 2010-11 IIHF World Junior Championships

USA Hockey announced today it has selected the Buffalo Sabres and HSBC Arena in Buffalo, N.Y., as the host for the 2011 International Ice Hockey Federation World Under-20 Championship (commonly referred to as the IIHF World Junior Championship).

Buffalo Sabres - #1 (Previously #4): The Sabres move into our top spot after another strong week from Thomas Vanek (tied for the league lead with seven goals) and goalie Ryan Miller (1.45 GAA is fourth in the NHL). Their special teams also have been outstanding, allowing just one PPG in 30 TSH.

The Sabres are coming off of a shootout loss to Atlanta over the weekend, but have started the season on fire nonetheless. Tonight they host division rival Boston, at 7:00 on Versus. Should be interesting to see if Vanek can keep up his torrid pace with 7 goals through 5 games.


Sabres Snap Rangers Streak; Ruff Records 400th Win

Last night the Buffalo Sabres cut short the Rangers opening five game win-streak by a score of 3-1.  Vanek continued his season opening hot streak by scoring two goals, one coming shorthanded.  A milestone was also crossed by Coach Lindy Ruff who won his 400th career game….

Recording his 400th career win with the Buffalo Sabres’ 3-1 victory over the New York Rangers, Ruff became only the eighth coach to accomplish the feat with same NHL team and the 23rd coach to reach 400-wins all-time.

Sabres Name Craig Rivet Captain

The Buffalo Sabres have named defensemen Craig Rivet captain for the 2008-09 campaign. Jason Pominville, Jochen Hecht, Jaroslav Spacek and Teppo Numminen have been named assistant captains as well….I gotta say I like the decision. We need a seasoned veteran heading up this team…especially a tough defenseman…..

Pominville Signs Contract Extension

BUFFALO, NY (September 18, 2008) – Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension with right winger Jason Pominville, keeping him in Buffalo through the 2013-14 season. The 25-year-old Pominville was scheduled to become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2008-09 season.

Buffalo Sabres 08′-09′ Season Preview

After narrowly missing the playoffs last season, the Sabres have made some key additions to all aspects of their game.  They won’t have the status they did a couple years ago, but if everything goes well, you should see them gain position in one of the final couple spots in the east come playoff season (I know its obviously too soon, but hey one can dream).
