Winter Classic 2009

The NHL recently announced the location of this upcoming season’s New Year Day outdoor game to be in the Windy City at Wrigley Field

On January 1st 2009, a great Western Conference matchup between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detriot Red Wings will take place in good ole’ pond hockey fashion on the field at Wrigley.  I believe this was a excellent decision and perfect location for this season’s Classic.  God knows what the elements will be like but it couldn’t get any more harsh and demanding than at Ralph Wilson last year.

My predictions? Well its obviously still semi-early in the off season but judging from all the moves made by the Hawks this summer, they should match up decently well against the defending Stanley Cup champs.  So in that case, I will hold back an official score prediction until the season gets going a bit.  In any case, Buffalo fans can rest easy this new years because we won’t have to worry about NHL poster child Sid the Kid scoring in the shootout and devastating our fair city for the umpteenth time.  However not being a huge fan of either side, I will still go ahead and cheer on the Hawks because of our hometown boy Kane and for the fact that I’m just sick of the Red Wings.  Go hockey.
